Imagine not only saving Davies Park from this bad development, but expanding the park with more public green space for our community.
There has been no significant increase in parkland in South Brisbane since the 1990s and the green space in our community is not keeping up with the pace of development. Imagine not only saving Davies Park from this bad development, but expanding the park with more public green space for our community.
There has been no significant increase in parkland in South Brisbane since the 1990s and the green space in our community is not keeping up with the pace of development. For years now, the council and the state government have put the profits of developers over the needs of local communities. This seems to have emboldened property developers, who are proposing more and more outrageous developments.
There is currently an application for two 26 storey towers at 281-297 Montague Road, on the border of Davies Park. This exceeds the high limit set by council by 14 storeys and will create a new precedent for developments in the area. It will overshadow and crowd the little greens space that's available on West End's riverfront and exacerbate the long standing issue of traffic congestion on Montague Road - adding 470 dwellings, 960+ residents, and 728 car parks.
This site is an opportunity – it should not be privately redeveloped at all. Instead, it should be bought by Council and the State Government to expand Davies Park. So please help save this much loved green space from dodgy development – make a submission.
