Fully Fund State Schools

Fully Fund State Schools

Queensland state schools have become some of the most underfunded in the country.

The Queensland Government contributes just 69.26% of minimum school funding, which the Federal government contribues 20%. This leaves a funding shortfall of $1.7 billion every year.

On top of this, Queensland families are having to spend thousands of dollars in fees and resources every year.

Write your letter to the Qld Minister for Education, Di Farmer, and the Federal Minister for Education, Jason Clare, calling for state schools to be fully funded and geuninely free.

Add your own reflections to the letter, or borrow some points here:

  • Queensland state schools have become some of the most underfunded in the country, with a funding shortfall of $1.7 billion every year.
  • The Queensland Government funds just 69.26% of the Schooling Resouce Standard, leaving Queensland state schools without the funding and resources they need. This means fewer teachers, fewer resources for kids and more out-of-pocket expenses for families.
  • On top of this, Queensland families are having to spend thousands of dollars in fees and resource costs every year.
  • The state and Federal governments are renegotiating the bilateral funding agreements - and we cannot afford to let state schools be underfunded any longer.
  • I urge the state and Federal governments to fully fund Queensland state schools, and include additional funding to cover out-of-pocket expenses for all Queensland state school students.
