Subject:
Make Wee Hur pay for Stones Corner Roundabout Upgrades
Dear Cr Fiona Cunningham, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, and Cr Krista Adams, Chair of City Planning & Economic Development, I’m writing to ask you not to approve Wee Hur's newest development application (A006150153) next to the Stones Corner Roundabout at 8 Gillingham Street, Woolloongabba and push for the developers to: - Pay to fix the roundabout - Invest properly in active & public transport - Include public housing and community facilities - Build in line with neighbourhood height limits <<< DELETE AND INSERT HOW THE CONGESTION AND ROUNDABOUT PERSONALLY IMPACTS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY >>> Two of the four towers Wee Hur is proposing exceed the neighbourhood plan limit by 14 storeys, with no plans for public housing or community facilities. We do not want 28- and 26-storey buildings that will tower over our neighbourhood and local school. Wee Hur has also changed what was going to be a potential local aged-care facility from the previous development application, into another commercial building – which there is already an excess of in the local area. Cr Cunningham, I ask that you, as our local Councillor, push back against this development and instead push for: 1. Wee Hur to pay to upgrade the O’Keefe St/Logan Road roundabout and Junction Street turn. The developers identified the need for the upgrade themselves in their self-funded traffic impact planning and seem open to funding it if it’s a condition of Council approval. 2. The development to facilitate active and public transport by: - Including end-of-trip facilities for any office and workspaces - Building a large number of bike racks for public use - Including accessible connections to the train and bus stations through walkways 3. A reduction in building height in line with the neighbourhood plan. 4. Allocations for public housing & community facilities. The site is within walking distance of essential services like doctors, dentists, supermarkets, and hairdressers and is a prime location for public housing. Wee Hur’s development will bring hundreds of new residents and earn the developers millions in profit. As our local councillor, I urge you to ensure the Council does not approve Wee Hur’s proposal unless it truly delivers what our community needs. I look forward to your timely response.
